Day 2-5

10-2-10

On day 2 we were actually able to hold our babies for the first time.  We held Shea first and neither one of us wanted to but her back in her isolette, but with her temp it is very important to keep her in their in a "stable" environment to help her excel.  We were able to hold Wes at night and truly enjoyed that as well.  Once we held them, we can honestly say there is nothing we would rather do!!!

On day 3 Wes was able to be moved to a crib - quite an accomplishment for the little guy.  It was so nice to be able to come in and touch him whenever we wanted.  We were able to hold both babies again as well which is are favorite part of each day.  We are also able to take their temperature and change their diapers at feeding times.  Their current feeding schedule is 8,11,2, and 5 - so every 3 hours.

Shea was put under photo lights as she has some Jaundice.  She likes to bask in the light.   Wes was in his crib so we got to interact with her more which was nice.  Wes also was able to be held by Aunt Michelle who is his godmother!!  We continued to change diapers, take temperatures, and try to "feed" (which is essentially at this point an excuse to hold and cuddle them!!).

I was released from the hospital today!!  But today also brought about Wes being back in the isolette as his tempartutre had dropped to 97.5 which is the threshhold which gets him back in the isolette.  He was on room air in it though and maintainted his temp.  I was able to help Wes with his first bath yesterday.  It was a "swaddle bath" and is quite interesting.  They use this method as  it causes less stress on the babies, and as you can see in the pics - he loved it.
Wes was so cute during his "Swaddle Bath"

Still enjoying his bath

Todays news includes all IV's being removed which is so exciting and Shea being off of the light!!  Also Wes is up to 30 ml and Shea is up to 20 ml per feeding.   They are handling their feedings well!!  One of the biggest accomplishments of the day is that Shea & Wes are now in a "twin" room together.  It is so nice to have them in one room and not try to split our time between the two!!

In a room together for the first time!!

Wes of course is on the Left and Shea is on the Right

Shea of course was not to be out done by Wes on her bath.  Rob was able to help give Shea her bath today and I think they both enjoyed it.  She also put on clothes for the first time today.

Its hard to believe that Wes & Shea are already 5 days old. I know that the time will go by quickly, but Rob & I were talking today and it has already started and they aren't even a week old.  We spent our first night at home last night which was nice (being in our own bed) but also sad as we were missing part of our family.  I think Porter and Winston were glad to have us back.  We have started a daily schedule of 7:45 - 10:00 at the hospital and then home for the night and then repeat.  I am pumping which is going really well and once the babies can latch on I will spend the nights here as well.  We will continue to keep everyone updated :)
