11-2-10 - HOMECOMING

Today is the day we finally have our whole family home!!  Baby Shea came home today weighing 4 lbs 15.4 oz's, 18 inches long, and head size 12.75 inches.  She is in the 3rd-5th percentile.  She might have some catch up growth between 6 and 9 months - otherwise as the doctor says - somebody has to be in the 3rd to 5th percentile :).   We have her first pediatrician appointment tomorrow morning.  We also have an appointment in December with a Hematologist.  Shea's newborn blood screen came back as abnormal.  Shea has Alpha Thalassemia.  We will find out in time if she is a silent carrier (one missing alpha and no problems) or if she has two alpha's missing which means she will have mild microcytic anemia which resembles iron deficiency anemia.  She will also then be retest at her 6 month and 12 month appointments.  Either way it is manageable and nothing to be too concerned about.  It is so nice to thing that we will be able to spend the next month at home together as a complete family before I head back to work on December 1st.  We are all looking to make the most of it!!
